Burn the candles now

20121231-230008.jpgburn the candles now
they were made for flame not dust
and this gift of life
too was meant for flame
that melts us down to essence
idle we but rust

My kind of cookie

everyone ate sweets
my cookieI sipped Tia and Java
my kind of cookie

The dinner was cleared away and the desert was served.  I tried, but could not.

I whispered to Marvin, our marvelous waiter and he brought me my desert.  The only real desert for me is not some overly sugared confection, but a crystal glass of amber ambrosia named Tia Maria with a steaming cup of black coffee chaser enhanced by stimulating conversations with an interesting group of people that I am so fortunate to work with.

There is never a good answer to Why.

Why?  We always ask why.  There is no answer good enough.  There is no reasonable, rational reason for the events of this day.  I wrote this poem long ago for a friend whose infant grandchild died for no good reason.
-------------------------------
emptiness unlike
100_4054any i have ever felt
when i doubt the god

to whom once i knelt
tomorrow is forever
coming if indeed

the day dawns at all
the once ideal and noble
thinking slowly fades

and then it does fall
reality is a void
escape all i know

i want to run hide
but where is there to go that
i will not still know

the answer comes but
oh so slow as shock subsides
i finally know

on is the only way that I can go.

Falling Leaves

100_0494It was the end of Fall
As I recall
And from my perch in
the old, old Birch
Near as I could see
there was only me
in that old tree
and one lonely, only
red-gold leaf.
And the leaf fell down
to the ground
without a sound the leaf
fell down.
No one to push
no real rush
the leaf just fell in a hush
succumbed to
sleep

All I want for Christmas – A Material Girl Moment.

Christmas cards are written, addressed, stamped and ready to go; a small token inserted in a few of them; will mail on Friday the 30th.

Now, in the tradition of Eartha Kitt’s ‘Santa Baby’, it’s time for my my annual over-the-top, material-girl-moment, Santa’s lap wish list…

All I want for Christmas is

pearls

real pearls
real black pearls
a cameo or two or six
a long black silk nightgown
a black silk camisole or two
a pair of silk 40’s style pajamas
anything silk
another little black dress
black high tops stilettos
black cowboy boots
a black convertible
a Mercedes convertible
a personal trainer
a male personal trainer
a diamond ring for my right hand
a magnum of Veuve Clicquot
a case of Veuve Clicquot
a diamond ring for any hand
a large cozy country house
a country house at the beach
any large cozy house at the beach
a maid
perfume
obsession perfume

How do we find destiny's door

fresh from the shower
she walked unfamiliar streets
moistened by sea mists

at the prodding wind's
insistent whispered promise
of destiny's door

Do you ever feel drawn to or driven by an unseen force?
